Courtesy of dear friends Alan and Linda
who generously invited us to share their 46th anniversary celebration, we ate one of the best meals ever and for a very reasonable price (considering that you are eating haute cuisine); that would be $26/pp for two courses and $34/pp for three. What’s nice about this is that two people can order dessert to be shared by all. Also, the prix fixe menu had many of the items on the regular menu so you really have a chance to sample the full scope of the cuisine.
It’s a gorgeous place, with a huge zinc bar and an enormous kitchen where you can watch the chefs if you like,
with comfy booths and tables surrounded by photos of some favorite artists’ works.
Our lunch began with herbed breads and flavored olive oil accompanied by wine, beer and a special cocktail of the day.
Moving along to the appetizer, three of us had the hummus (best ever), baba ganoush (best ever) and their crackers (great)
while Rory had their corn agnolotti.
For the main course, Linda had the hangar steak,
Alan the lambburger,
Rory Daniel Boulud’s grandmother’s ratatouille,
and I the signature chicken tagine–amazing.

We finished with one chocolate dessertand one fig and walnut dessert among us complete with anniversary message.
A sumptuous meal in a beautiful spot, served with attentive waiters who did not hover but were there when you wanted them. What could be better than a summer (or winter) lunch here? This is Middle Eastern cooking with flair. Boulud Sud is on the Upper West Side around the corner from Broadway at 20 West 64th Street.
